Task: Establish Technical Infrastructure

Using the base-lined technical environment design document, the Technology And Infrastructure Lead must establish the necessary technical environments to support the overall transition and service delivery. It is important to ensure the environments are established within the expected timelines as the knowledge transfer stream may have dependencies on the technical environment. Any hindrances observed, must therefore be immediately resolved.

Typically, establishing the technical environment will include:

Implementing requisite tools and platforms for service delivery as defined in the technical design This activity involves arranging licenses and configuring the tools (as detailed out in task “Build Platforms And Tools Environment”
Setting up applications (Outlook, LYNC, business applications etc.) necessary to implement service delivery
Establishing network connectivity and access requirements. This would include setting up access to customer’s domain through VPN or another means. In the case of third party involvement in the transition, required access to third party premises and infrastructure, must be established by requesting the Client to provide access. In this case, access to the Client’s application will most probably be via VPN or Citrix and the Engagement Manager (Transition) must establish and trigger the process to gain access
Establishing technical infrastructure in terms of server commissioning, database setup, network Equipment, etc.
Establishing security requirements – This could include Offshore development Centre setup, isolated network segments and other items as designated by the security stream
Setting up physical infrastructure and facilities (racks, seating arrangement, laptops, communication devices, etc.)

The Technology And Infrastructure Lead must ensure the documentation for the technical environment is updated in case any changes surface during implementation.

It is extremely critical to keep all the relevant stakeholders informed about the progress and any challenges encountered, while establishing the intended technical environment. The Technology And Infrastructure Lead will identify and manage to resolution issues faced while establishing the technical environments and update the lessons learnt repository simultaneously.
